Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust

Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust is an integrated health and adult social care organisation. We provide community health services in Torbay and Southern Devon and in Torbay we provide and commission adult social care services. We provide services to around 375,000 people.

We employ approximately 2000 staff including frontline health and social care staff, such as district nurses, occupational therapists and social workers, and operate from a range of different premises across Torbay and south Devon such as community hospitals and clinics.

Our aim is to provide you with the right care, in the right place, at the right time.  We are constantly developing new ways to make services more accessible for the local population, and introducing new opportunities for you to take more control over the care and support you receive to help you live your life the way you want to.

The Trust formally came into existence as a statutory body on 1 October 2000, as Torbay Primary Care Trust. It subsequently became Torbay Care Trust on 1 October 2005 (taking on responsibility for social care in a partnership agreement with Torbay Borough Council from December 2005), and Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust on 1 April 2012.

From October 2005 the then Care Trust had responsibility for both commissioning (buying) and providing integrated health and social care services to people in the Torbay area. From 1 April 2011 it has also been responsible for community health care services in the southern part of Devon, covering roughly the districts of Teignbridge, South Hams and West Devon. In April 2012 the Trust separated the commissioning and provider responsibilities and healthcare commissioning became the responsibility of the Commissioning Cluster for Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust has a budget of around £125m for 2012/13. The Trust also works with a range of local voluntary sector organisations, and with several NHS providers and local authorities.
